FOOTBALL IS KING ONCE AGAIN
The season kicked off with surprises, blowouts, and changes of the guard. In the college ranks, and according to Jay Kornegay, executive director of the Las Vegas Hilton SuperBook, USC has once again risen to the top after their dominating performance over Ohio St. The Las Vegas Hilton SuperBook has the Trojans 3-2 to win the BCS championship. Others include Oklahoma 9-2, Georgia 7-1, and Missouri at 12-1. On the pro side, the Dallas Cowboys are not considered the favorite after two wins and the Tom Brady injury. The SuperBook lists the Cowboys at 4-1 to win it all. Other contenders include; Colts 7-1, Steelers 7-1, Patriots and Giants both at 10-1. All the current odds are available in the SuperBook.
LIKE FATHER, LIKE DAUGHTER
Tony Bennett's daughter, Antonia Bennett, will open for her father when he headlines at the Las Vegas Hilton this weekend (September 19-20). Some of her songs she will perform: "Every Time We Say Goodbye," and "Too Marvelous For Words." Antonia also recorded a duet with Tony for his soon to be released holiday CD, TONY BENNETT: A SWINGIN' CHRISTMAS featuring the Count Basie Big Band. The CD will be released on October 14.
"ULTIMATE" MERCHANDISE AT HILTON
Barry Manilow's new show at the Las Vegas Hilton, "ULTIMATE MANILOW: The Hits" also has some hits in the merchandise department. The Manilow store at the Hilton is featuring the new show's name and logo on everything from bathrobes to tee shirts to mugs to cell phone charms. Open daily, 10 a.m.-11 p.m.
I JUST WANNA SING
International pop singer-songwriter Gino Vannelli, whose hits include "I Just Wanna Stop," "Living Inside Myself," and "People Gotta Move" headlines at the Hilton Theater November 9 at 7 p.m. Vannelli, born in Canada and growing up in a musical family, started playing drums at a very young age and studied musical theory at McGill University. Today, the singer-songwriter incorporates poetry, philosophy, and his life experiences in his music.
HITZ, HITS, MEMOIRS AND SONG
Jin Jin Reeves, star of Hitzville: The Show; three-time IFL Heavyweight Champ Roy "Big Country" Nelson; Laraine Russo Harper, author of "Legal Tender, True Tales of a Brothel"; and singer/songwriter Stephen Wesley join Ira on "Lunchtime With Ira, Live from the Las Vegas Hilton." The show can be seen on Clark County Television (CCTV), Cox cable channel 4 on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at Noon and 8 p.m., heard on NEWS/TALK 720 KDWN (Saturdays at 9 p.m.), and is available 24/7 at www.lvhilton.com. The show, produced live every Monday at Noon, features host Ira David Sternberg talking with the celebrities, entertainers, writers, personalities and community leaders who make Las Vegas the most exciting city in the world.
